County Clerk Completes Land Record Digitization Project

Becky Buie, pike county chancery clerk

Becky Buie, Pike County Chancery Clerk, recently completed the digitization of her county's land record collection back to Book A.

This is a huge win for the county and the users that rely on these records. Every land record in the county's history is now digitally preserved for eternity.

Back 40 Club and beyond

Doug Touchstone, Becky's predecessor, started down the path of digitization by having several years of land records scanned by our team. Becky picked up where Doug left off and set her sights on scanning back 40 years.

40 years is a major milestone for Chancery Clerks as this range of land instruments typically covers most title searchers.

After joining the Back 40 Club, Becky began work on scanning back to the county’s first land records book. This involved a multi-year engagement where she scanned a few decades of books each year.

Preserving land records for future generations was a top priority when I took office. These records document the history of property ownership in Pike County from the very beginning.
— Becky Buie, Pike County Chancery Clerk

Scanning projects take a lot of hard work to get across the finish line. The oldest books are always the most challenging as you transition from shiny binders and clean paper to bound books, handwritten instruments, photostats, transcripts, and books that have seen better days.

Becky stayed the course and completed her entire land collection. She will now focus her attention on other record types including military discharges, newspapers, and civil filings.

We were extremely happy with the quality and service of Revolution Data Systems throughout our scanning project. This was a multi-year engagement with a lot of moving parts.
